La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs supports & promotes future young chefs
& young sommeliers by giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their skills.
The first Young Chef Competition was held in Switzerland in 1977 & in the U.S. in 1999. Competitions are held at
Regional, National & International levels around the world. The competition has been featured on the TV Food Network
& CNN. Each competitor is given an identical "mystery basket" containing a few key ingredients & must
design & prepare a 3-course meal to serve four people with those ingredients in 4 hours! Such is the challenge given young
cooks competing in the Young Chefs Rôtisseur Competition.
The Young Sommelier Competition promotes the expertise of the wine & spirit professional.
It also encourages mastery of wine & spirit knowledge. Competition began in the U.S. in 2000 & continues today to
test skills in wine service, general knowledge, discerning various qualities in blind tastings, as well as the coordination
& pairing appropriate foods.
